Los Angeles County Supervisors approve two proposals Tuesday meant to provide more oversight of the troubled prison system, including building out the Oversight Committee.
This step is performed after a few weeks a report on The Times and other details of the alleged violations of the organization in prison and also follow the FBI investigation into potential mistakes.
“There are destroying public confidence,” said Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
The sound could be a blow to Sheriff Lee Baca, who initially criticized the FBI’s investigation on the basis of the law but has since admitted that he had done a poor job to oversee the nation’s largest prison system. Read was not present at the meeting.
One of the plan, supported by Supervisor Gloria Molina, called to implement the recommendations made earlier by the foreign monitors, including the installation of surveillance cameras, eliminating the heavy use of flashlights and steel-toed shoes, and ban Deputies from the striking inmates at the head.
