Barnegat mother of two says she learned Charlene Scott crochet as curious 11-year-old waiting with his mother to the family car to get an oil change at Sears Auto Center. Sitting near them was a woman knitting.
“I asked if I could watch him,” he said. “On my way home I make my mother stopped at the fabric store for taken what he had.”
Through trial and error, he learned the craft, and began to make a baby blanket. Much later, when friends start having children, she picked up her crochet hook again, this time with an eye on the projects that are more complex, like a baby hat.
